Your point is well-taken, Ralph, and the ESPN author did some fine research, but it's all immaterial to me.
The author says, "Baseball's biggest story? It's not that most teams have "no chance." It's that this season is wide, wide open."
Maybe it's wide open for 17 teams (or maybe even twenty) but my Pirates are out of it already. The baseball season is over for me before it began; that's why I don't care about pro baseball any more.
Spring is supposed to be a time of hope. And for baseball fans, it is a time to once again root for your team to win a pennant. But this annual ritual is futile for fans like me.
